SAMBUTAN HARI KANAK-KANAK SEDUNIA

Berdasarkan kepada fakta-fakta sedia ada, Sambutan Hari Kanak-Kanak SeDunia yang pertama telah dianjurkan oleh International Union For Child Welfare pada tahun 1953 dan diiktirafkan oleh UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) pada tahun 1954 dan hanya pada 20 November 1959 PBB telah mengistiharkan Hari Kanak-Kanak SeDunia dan meminta semua negara merayakannya pada setiap tahun
 
Di Malaysia Perayaan Hari Kanak-Kanak SeDunia telah mula disambut pada 8 Oktober 1959 bertempat di Stadium Negara Kuala Lumpur iaitu sebaik sahaja PBB mengistiharkannya sebagai hari untuk persaudaraan sejagat dan kefahaman dikalangan kanak-kanak seluruh dunia.

Majlis Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Malaysia (MKKM) telah diamanahkan untuk menganjurkan majlis sambutan ini mulai tahun 1960 sehinggalah tahun 1994. Namun begitu tahun 1995 menyaksikan tugas-tugas penganjuran ini telah diambil alih oleh Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Malaysia (JKMM).

Sambutan Hari Kanak-Kanak SeDunia sebagai satu acara penghormatan dan pengiktirafan oleh pihak kerajaan dan masyarakat kepada generasi kanak-kanak dan acara sambutan ini juga diharap dapat memberi kesedaran kepada masyarakat keseluruhan akan peranan dan tanggungjawab untuk memelihara hak serta masa depan kanak-kanak di Malaysia.

Hari Kanak-Kanak Sedunia disambut tiap-tiap tahun pada mana-mana hari Sabtu dalam bulan Oktober

24 LAGI DIIKTIRAF SEKOLAH BERPRESTASI TINGGI (SBT)

Kementerian Pendidikan semalam mengiktiraf 24 lagi sekolah sebagai Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBT), termasuk sebuah Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) yang julung kali menerima status itu. Berikutan pengiktirafan 24 SBT Kohort 4 berkenaan, jumlah SBT sejak dimulakan pada 2010 sudah mencecah 115, melebihi sasaran 110 yang ditetapkan bagi tahun ini.  

Setiap sekolah yang diiktiraf SBT akan menerima Peruntukan Khas sebanyak RM700,000 pada tahun pertama, RM500,000 pada tahun kedua dan RM300,000 pada tahun seterusnya. Semua pengetua dan guru besar SBT diberi autonomi bagi membelanjakan Peruntukan Khas itu, khususnya bagi program pendidikan untuk melonjakkan kecemerlangan sekolah.

Pengetua, guru besar, guru dan anggota khidmat sokongan (AKS) SBT juga layak menerima Bayaran Insentif sekali gus RM1,000 untuk sekolah menengah dan RM700 untuk sekolah rendah. Kementerian Pendidikan memperuntukkan RM16.8 juta untuk 24 SBT yang diumum semalam.

I. Vocabulary

You can learn 300 new words in a month, spending just 15 minutes per day:
1. Open www.lingualeobr.com. You can register or login with facebook.
2. Find favorite movies, songs, books or jokes - whatever you like.
3. Click on 10 new words (you'll see the translation), which you can add to your online dictionary.
4. Choose games to memorize these words, and learn English playing.

II. Speaking

Don't forget why you are learning English - to communicate. If you live in an English-speaking country, pay attention to the English conversations around you. If you don’t have contact with native English speakers, you can use a facebook application to contact people:
1. Open https://apps.facebook.com/speak-in/
2. Select the language you want to learn and your native language.
3. Click on "Speak (Learn Together)", and start speaking.
Also you can click on "Language Exchange" to communicate with native speakers.

III. Grammar

If you have any questions regarding English (grammar, vocabulary, translations...), use www.help2say.com.
You can get answers for all your questions regarding English learning. Learn foreign languages by helping others and being helped by others. Share your experience, find out new interesting topics everyday. Be sure to use it and pass it on to others. Ask and answer questions, make the world better!

SPOKEN ENGLISH TIPS (LEARNER'S EXPERIENCE)

The following tips helped me improve my spoken English and overcome my hesitation in the language. Hope they are useful for you too.

  1. Don’t worry about making mistakes because you will make mistakes as a learner.
     

  2. Be patient. This isn’t a one day process.
     

  3. Learn certain phrases that can be used in multiple situations.
     

  4. Learn how to greet someone properly.
     

  5. Talk slowly and carefully. Don’t rush through your sentences.
     

  6. Restrict yourself to simple sentences until you gain confidence.
     

  7. Watch out for your pronunciation. Many online tools will tell you how to pronounce a word correctly. Check one of them out when you’re in doubt.
     

  8. Carefully observe how proficient speakers of the language pronounce words and frame their sentences.
     

  9. Ask your friends, relatives and anyone you can to point out your mistakes and correct them.
     

  10. Speak to them in English only. Practice is a must.
     

  11. Record yourself reading one article aloud every day. Focus on pronunciation, speed, clarity and emphasis.
     

  12. Many online sites offer you the opportunity to voice chat with another user. This is an effective way to practice.
     

  13. Learn at least one new word every day and use it as a part of your conversation with people. By the end of the week, you should know seven words really well.
     

  14. Learn new words everyday
     

  15. Read at least one article of your choice aloud every day.
     

  16. Watch English movies with subtitles.
     

  17. Watch English shows.
     

  18. Read books and magazines.
     

  19. Keep a pocket dictionary handy for any word you may need to know the meaning of.
     

  20.  When you hear a new word, try to find its usage and its antonyms.
